About Goumenissa
Goumenissa is a small traditional town in the Kilkis regional unit, Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the Paionia Municipality, of which it is a community and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 208.949Â km2. The 2021 census recorded 3,292 residents in the community and 5,157 residents in the municipal unit. The town sits on the southeastern part of the Paiko mountain range. Located 69Â km northwest of Thessaloniki, 539Â km north of Athens and 20Â km north of Pella, the ancient capital of the Greek kingdom of Macedonia. Goumenissa is the seat of the Greek Orthodox diocese of Goumenissa, Axioupoli and Polykastro.
